Do I have some sort of vaginal illness/disease?

alright, let me start off by saying you don’t know how scared i’m starting to get. im 16 years old, i have never had sex, and i am worried about my vagina to be completely honest. the clitoris and inner labia are dark dark purple and have little bitty bumps on them, but they don’t irritate me. i have a significant amount of discharge, it is brownish, and pretty thick. it’s never been that color. i have been dealing with all of these symptoms for about two years now, im really afraid. i’ve had discharge for a while too but it’s just started to be brown, since my last period. please, if anyone knows what it might be just tell me so i get scared enough to somehow get to the doctor. im scared, and im embarrassed to tell my mom/sister/etc. i don’t know what to do. please give me advice, or if you have any idea what it might be….please tell!

Don’t be embarrassed. You need to see a Doctor. Just tell your mother and she will help you. You have nothing to be embarrassed about. You may just have a infection of some sort but you do need to see the doctor in order to get better. Just take a deep breath and go talk to your mother. Everything should be fine and you will feel so much better for getting it taken care of………….Now go talk to her.

    Good luck!!

The source will give you some general information. It is best to see your doctor, who can do an examination, run the correct tests and do the right treatment.

As far as being embarrassed, that is normal. Just tell your mom. Just about every woman has had some strange vaginal discharge at some point in her life. In most cases there is a simple answer that is easily taken care of.

First of all what you are going through could be completely normal. Brownish color discharge at the end of your menstrual cycle is common. Second of all, don’t be afraid to go to someone with questions or concerns. Any female at any age can get yeast infections, vaginal infections, and other varieties of things without ever having sex.
It would be best if you went to a doctor and got everything checked out.

The color doesnt seem to be a concern but the discharge could simply be old blood shedding with the discharge from a past period. It is scary to go to the OBGYN but you reallly should, especially if you are sexually active, and are in pain. Dont worry, if you are scared to talk to your parents about it, then try to go to an adolescent health center or planned parenthood. They can help you a lot.

First of all, stop worrying. If you are really only 16 and a virgin (that means no intercourse at all, including oral and anal, right?), then it cannot possibly be anything life-threatening.

Purple is a normal color and the bumps are called sebaceous cysts. Those are normal too.

Why haven’t you gone to a gynecologist? Brownish discharge all the time or just sometimes? It could be a little blood from your ovulation. When the follicle bursts, a little blood might come out. By the time it gets to your vagina, it’s brownish.

Vaginal discharge is normal. It’s called cervical fluid, or cervical mucus. All women have it all the time. It changes throughout the month depending on your hormonal changes.

Why be embarrassed? Your mother and sister have vaginas too. Why not just say, "Mom, (or Sis) I’m not sure if my vaginal secretions are normal. I have some questions for a doctor. Can we make an appointment for a check up?"

As embarrassing/tough as it may be, you really need to go see a doctor right away… the fact that you’ve got brown discharge makes it really worrisome, and if you have any kind of infection it can spread up and into your fallopian tubes/ovaries. If that happens, you could end up being sterile, so you’d never have the chance to have kids–and that alone is worth braving the embarrassment and going to the doc right away. Even if it turns out to be nothing, it isn’t worth you putting your future at risk.

As for the coloring, I am not sure if that is anything to worry about, mine is slightly purple in color sometimes, too.
You should, however, be worried about the discharge. It should never be that color or have a noticable smell. You really need to go to a doctor. You could have an infection that was caused from a tampon or if you wear panties that are not cotton. It’s better to go get it checked out, than wait and find out it’s too late.
    Good luck.

well the brown discharge after you’re period is completely normal. It’s just your vagina cleaning itself out basically. If you’re truly worried about your well being i would just go to you’re mom and tell her you need to make a doctors apt. and you tell her it’s a private matter or think of something else and when you go to the doctors just go in by yourself and talk to your doctor. If their concerned then they’ll set up an obgyn apt. for you

Maybe it is from NOT having enough lubrication down there. Lubrication is what cleans out the dead cells from the vagina. If you are not lubricated enough, then you could be shedding old (brown) blood from your last period.

If you are not having an orgasm, even from self stimulation, then you may need to use some kind of lubrication.

That could also be why you have bumps (from dry skin).

It is not normal to be dry. The mucus membrane needs to be wet on those areas of soft skin.
