I have PCOS and had trouble concieving. The doc put me on Metformin to treat the PCOS. It treats the underlying insulin resistance that characterises the disease, not just the resulting weight gain or infertility. I lost 40 pounds in 6 months and got pregnant. I had the baby nearly 2 years ago. Breastfeeding was great for weight loss, but after that the weight went back on. I'm back on metformin to a) lose weight and b) try ot conceive again.

Metformin also reduces your PCOS sufferer risk of miscarriage from 1:2 to 1:10 and is safe in pregnancy.

Good luck girl

I'm 21, and I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 17. I too have a HORRIBLE time with my weight. I'm well overweight, and it seems that no matter what I do, I'm still fat. Basically the only thing you can do other than what you're already doing, is to see an endocrinologist. He/she will monitor your insulin levels, your triglycerides, etc. You need a complete workup to see how your body is actually functioing. Then he/she may also prescribe medication to help you manage these issues (because PCOS affects your pancreas and insulin, sometimes causing diabetes), and a medication to help you shed the weight. My doctor prescribed me adipex, which helped, but made me sick. See your doctor about it. Good luck!

i'm 24 was diagnosed at 15.... I was on glucophage for a while, it work well, then hit a plataue. I was switched to Topamax, an epeleptic medication, that also helps treat migraines and diabetes/insulin problems. . . about 3 weeks ago and already lost about 10 pounds with that. If you've not seen and endocrinologist, that would be your best option. They seem to have more of a handle on PCOS than your regular physician and OB/GYN.......

Believe it or not it may make it easier on you to get pregnant with the extra few pounds and the last thing you should worry about when your pregnant is your weight!!!!!!! Worry about losing the weight after you deliver your new bundle of joy and for now just worry about being healthy. We are all made in different shapes and sizes but unfortunetly one of our biggest concerns is not how we actually look but how big around we are. Let go of that until after the baby is born and you'll make the most wonderful, but uncomfortable time of your life a whole lot easier. If you don't then you'll make yourself crazy as the incredible child grows inside of you and your body starts to change to accomodate the extra life growing inside of you. Focus on the fact that it is the most incredible thing to have another life wiggling around inside there. I REALLY MISS BEING PREGNANT AND FAT!!!!! I love it!
